Kern County food bank resources Virtual asthma and nutrition classes now available! The Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) Food Bank is a Partner Distribution Organization within the Feeding America network. The CAPK Food Bank provides food assistance to low-income people through its network of 155 distribution sites. These sites are located throughout the county. The CAPK Food Bank offers the following food programs: y The Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) distributes government-purchased food at 42 sites throughout Kern County. y The Pantry Program distributes non-government food at 113 sites. This food is donated through food drives, by local businesses, and the community. y The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides government-purchased food at 35 sites to seniors ages 60 years and up. y The Snack Attack Program offers healthy snacks to children during after-school programs. y The Backpack Buddies Program distributes food backpacks to children in rural and low-income schools. y The Free Farmers Market provides free, fresh produce to the public. It also offers healthy eating education. KFHC is now offering virtual asthma and nutrition classes every month. You can join these virtual classes on your computer, tablet or smartphone from the comfort of your home. What can you learn in our virtual asthma classes? You can learn about how to manage your asthma symptoms and triggers with nontoxic cleaning. You can also learn how to use your asthma medication and how to live a clean air lifestyle. When are the asthma classes offered? The first and second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. and most Wednesdays at 6 p.m. What can you learn in our virtual nutrition classes? You can learn about meal planning, portion control, sugars in your diet, and healthy changes to your favorite recipes. We also cover easy ways to exercise and start a garden. When are the nutrition classes offered? Thursdays at 6 p.m. Are virtual classes offered in English and Spanish? Yes. Members can receive a $10 gift card for attending.
