FAMILY HEALTH 3 What is a heart murmur? A heart murmur is the sound of the blood flowing. It is a sound the heart makes when blood is pumped through the heart valves. Heart murmurs come in all kinds of sounds. What does a heart murmur mean? A heart murmur does not always mean a heart problem. For some people, heart murmurs may be a sign of other health problems. How do I know if I have a heart murmur? Doctors usually listen for heart murmurs at your physical exam. Your doctor can do other tests if they hear a sound that may not be normal. This will help find the problem and start treatment. It is important. Know the signs of ADHD Kids have a lot of energy and act up at times. It’s not easy to tell when a kid is being a kid or when it might be attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Behavior signs can be clues to parents and teachers that a child might have ADHD. They happen frequently and for at least six months: Inattention. Children with ADHD may: y Seem like they don’t listen. y Get distracted easily. y Have trouble focusing on things. y Find it hard to stick to a task. y Have trouble organizing schoolwork or other things. y Lose and forget things. Hyperactive/impulsive behaviors. Children: y Often fidget or squirm. y Butt in when others are talking. y Talk all the time or blurt out answers. y Run or climb on furniture. y Find it hard to play quietly. y Have trouble waiting their turn. y Seem like they’re just always moving.
