You might take it to help relieve pain
or fever.
It’s a drug called acetaminophen
(
Tylenol). And it’s found in hundreds
of medicines you can nd in stores.
It’s also in many prescription drugs
that are used to treat pain.
Know the risks
e drug can cause harm if you
take too much. In fact, it’s the main
cause of acute liver failure in the U.S.
Now the FDA has taken steps
to help stop people from taking
too much by accident.
Starting in 2014, no
prescription drug can
have more than 325 mg
of acetaminophen
(
Tylenol) per dose.
Many drugs used to treat pain
have more than that. So the makers
of these drugs will have to change the
drugs to be in line with the new rule.
Be aware that the old drugs may
still be around for a while.
Take care
No matter what kind of medicine
you take, read the label. Don’t take
more than it says to take.
If you’re not sure how much to
take, call your provider.
